How long does a review take?

A call is usually arranged within 48 hours of a complete submission. Incomplete submissions are the most common cause of delay.

Do I need to travel to New York?

No. The review is done remotely and the discussion happens by phone.

Is this a treatment plan?

No. A remote case review is a second opinion on imaging and history. It is not a physical examination and does not create an ongoing doctor–patient relationship.

Remote second opinion on your MRI or X-ray

Dr. Seneviratne is available for remote consultation if you do not live in the New York area, or if you would like a second opinion. Frequently, when surgery is recommended, patients want an additional opinion to be sure the right procedure is being proposed for their particular problem.

He reviews your clinical history along with the X-rays and MRIs you submit, and a call is usually arranged within 48 hours to discuss the case.

The fee is $250, payable by credit card.

When a second opinion is worth having

Surgery has been recommended

You have a diagnosis and a proposed operation, and you want to know whether it is the right one before you commit.

You live outside New York

Distance should not decide who reads your imaging. The review is done remotely and the call happens by phone.

A previous operation has failed

Revision cases need a surgeon who does them regularly. Bring the operative report along with the imaging.

Nobody has explained the MRI

You have the report but not the meaning of it. A review translates what the scan actually shows.

How it works

Submit your case. Upload your imaging and give a short history of the problem, using the form below or the case review line.
Pay the review fee. $250 by credit card, taken once the case is accepted.
Dr. Seneviratne reviews it personally. Clinical history, X-rays and MRI, read by the surgeon rather than summarised by staff.
You get a call. Usually within 48 hours of a complete submission, to talk through what he sees and what he would do.

What to send

An incomplete submission is the most common cause of delay.

The MRI or X-ray images themselves, not only the radiology report. DICOM files are preferred.
The radiology report, if you have it.
A short history: how the injury happened, when, and what has been tried so far.
Any operative reports, if you have had previous surgery on the same joint.
The recommendation you have already been given, if there is one.
